Finding Drama in Every Turn

So you might ask yourself 'who are they?" We are an English Drama Group under the name of "Renegade Actors Innsbruck" (short RAI). We were founded in 2016 by Ariane de Waal, a lecturer at the University of Innsbruck. Since her return to her homeland in 2020, our group was taken over by Ulrich Pallua, another lecturer at the university and drama enthusiast. We have performed several different plays throughout the years. Our first performance "To the Light/over. A postmodern Pilgrimage", premiered at the Bogentheater in March 2017.

Senior Lecturer at the University of Innsbruck; genuinely interested in music as I have actively been writing and playing music for 20 years; genuinely interested in drama and representation of plays on stage; proud of the RAI Actors.

Sophia

Actress/ Assistant Director

I am a BA English student at the University of Innsbruck. I started acting when I was 12 and co-directed a theater group in high school where I discovered my passion for the stage. However, my fascination with theatre started much earlier in kindergarten. Beside from acting, I am a musician performing at different venues and enjoy writing music as well as playing TTRPGs and boardgames. It’s great to be a part of RAI and to be able to perform with so many talented people.

Max

Actor/ Assistant Director/ Scheduling Manager

A teacher of English and History, currently working as a teaching assistant at Emory University in Atlanta, and a big fan of all things whitewater sports and boardgaming. Becoming a member of RAI in 2017 was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only did it spark my persistent passion for acting and theatre pedagogy, the people of RAI hold a special place in my heart as some of my dearest friends.

Actor/ Assistant Director

Aspiring teacher for whom acting is a relatively novel concept. At least in a more active role. It has certainly been an interesting experience thus far, and I enjoy it more than I thought I would.

Sonja

Actress/ Co-Marketing Director

Aspiring Art and English teacher and soon-to-be graduate of a master degree in media. I have loved acting since I was a child, and I adore slipping into different roles. Working on a play allows you to dig deeper and bring your own interpretations of a character to life. It is like being a movie star; just better :) I am so lucky to be part of such an amazing and supportive drama group.

Hanna

Actress/Co-Marketing Director

I am a student in the teaching programme with English and Biology as my subjects. I started acting in Kindergarten and have loved it ever since. When I am not studying or on stage, you can probably find me curled up somewhere with a book and a cup of tea in hand, traveling around the world or on a mountain. I am so blessed to be part of RAI and to be able to pursue my passion with such a great bunch of people.

Magda

Actress/ Costume & Prop Department

I’m a kindergarten teacher and sister to two awesome brothers. I’ve always liked acting as a fun hobby but throughout the years it has also helped me grow more confident and self-assured. You probably know me from when I played Little Red Riding Hood back in first grade. I really did nail that one. As one of the original cast members, RAI holds a very special place in my heart and I’ll never let go of the wonderful friendships that have blossomed in this group over the years.

Actress/ Costume & Makeup Department

I am a tailor and an aspiring makeup artist. So I am creative and love to show this on stage and within our group. I joined RAI about one year ago. At first I was really unsure about my skills, but the group really allowed me to grow.

Actor/Prop Department

Soon-to-be graduate of a master degree in media sciences at the University of Innsbruck; I am an avid fan of tabletop RPGs and a (day)dreamer. Acting was a thing that I tried in my youth and that stuck to me until today. I enjoy being part of RAI (again) as the people are genuinely fun to hang out with. Fun Fact: I lost a battle against a rooster once.

I am a chemist and soon to be a chemical engineer. Besides studying I’m doing fun stuff I swear. Like climbing, hiking, all the typical Tyrolean things. But besides all that hardy stuff, I always had a passion for arts. And acting for me is not just about playing another person, it's about being able to feel like the other person and sometimes fleeing from reality.
